A Party (and a Health Plan) With a Purpose

It’s April, which officially means it’s FIESTA time!

If you’re from San Antonio, you probably are quite familiar with the huge city-wide event that brings us all together to celebrate our heritage, culture, history, and diversity. But did you know there’s a larger purpose behind the 11-day-long party, more meaningful than parades, flower crowns, and chicken on a stick?

Fiesta is often referred to as a “party with a purpose.” Why? Because proceeds from each Fiesta event are donated to local non-profits to help them provide essential social, cultural, and economic services to our community year-round.

As the only local, non-profit health plan in the San Antonio area, Fiesta hits close to home for Community First – not just geographically, but also because our missions are similar: to serve our community. We strive to better the lives of the families we serve, and we put in the work to connect with and help those in need. And although we haven’t been around QUITE as long as Fiesta, we understand our community because our roots are here. Community First was founded right here in San Antonio in 1995, and our employees work and live here. Our Members are our neighbors and our friends.

Now for the fun part—Community First is proud to participate in beloved Fiesta traditions each year, including the Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades. You’ll also find us at a variety of Fiesta gatherings throughout the season, supporting initiatives that promote health, inclusion, and connection. Find out where you can find us (and maybe snag our official Fiesta medal) by visiting our Fiesta page.

As you enjoy our city’s biggest “party with a purpose,” remember to have fun and be safe. For a full list of events with dates, times, and locations, visit FiestaSanAntonio.org. And as a reminder, Fiesta is just one event we participate in on a larger scale. You can find Community First at local events in Bexar County and its seven surrounding counties all year long by visiting our events page.
