Community First Health Plans is sharing important updates based on guidance from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) regarding COVID-19-related coverage. A recent amendment to the federal Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act) extends key flexibilities through December 31, 2029.

Key Details:
Vaccination Administration at Pharmacies
- Active pharmacists, supervised pharmacist interns, and pharmacy technicians may administer COVID-19 and influenza vaccines to Medicaid members aged 3 years and older.
- Vaccines must be on the Vendor Drug Program (VDP) formulary and are covered under the pharmacy benefit.
Pharmacist Prescribing of At-Home COVID-19 Tests and Therapeutics
- Pharmacists may prescribe COVID-19 at home tests and COVID-19 therapeutics listed on the VDP formulary.
- These services remain covered under the pharmacy benefit and must follow VDP guidelines.
