Community First Health Plans is sharing important updates based on guidance from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) regarding COVID-19-related coverage. A recent amendment to the federal Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act) extends key flexibilities through December 31, 2029.

Please review the following updates to ensure compliance and continued access to care for our members.

Key Details:

Vaccination Administration at Pharmacies

  • Active pharmacists, supervised pharmacist interns, and pharmacy technicians may administer COVID-19 and influenza vaccines to Medicaid members aged 3 years and older.
  • Vaccines must be on the Vendor Drug Program (VDP) formulary and are covered under the pharmacy benefit.

Pharmacist Prescribing of At-Home COVID-19 Tests and Therapeutics

  • Pharmacists may prescribe COVID-19 at home tests and COVID-19 therapeutics listed on the VDP formulary.
  • These services remain covered under the pharmacy benefit and must follow VDP guidelines.
