Research shows that those over the age of 65 and with underlying heart disease, are more likely to get the virus and more likely to develop severe symptoms. New data also suggests people with COVID-19 as young as 30 are experiencing strokes. COVID-19 has an impact on the cardiovascular system, so it’s important to beware of the risks.
According to Sanford Health, heart and stroke individuals should do their best to protect themselves from COVIVD-19 by following these three steps:
- Stay Informed
- Underling heart conditions are at a higher risk for severe disease symptoms. Following all recommended precautions along with social distancing is the best form of protection.
- Follow Your Treatment Plan
- Underlying conditions such as: diabetes, high blood pressure, or cardiovascular disease increases your risk for severe symptoms for COVID-19. Remember to follow your current treatment plan (do not skip any medications) along with regulating your blood pressure.
- Update your Doctor (Primary Care Physician)
- Don’t neglect any major symptoms of a heart attack or stroke such as:
- Chest pain
- Irregular heartbeat
- F.A.S.T. – face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, Time to call 911 if someone is having a stroke.
