Marketplace Grade Periods: Guidance for Providers

Members enrolled in a Marketplace health plan are responsible for paying their premium each month. Members that do not make their premium payments in a timely manner enter a grace period, which begins with the first month a payment is missed.
During the grace period, coverage is still active, but eligibility status may change due to factors such as continued non-payment or transfer to another health plan.

Eligibility Status

Providers should verify eligibility status with Community First before rendering services. If Community First verify a Marketplace Member is in a grace period, Providers should confirm status directly with the Member. For additional information about how authorizations and claims will be processed during grace periods, please contact Community First Provider Services at 210-358-6030.
