The Texas Vendor Drug Program (VDP) has notified managed care organizations that the planned expansion of adult vaccine coverage under the Medicaid pharmacy benefit has been postponed and will not go live on February 2, 2026.
This update is related to the October 13, 2025, announcement that adult vaccines would be added to the pharmacy benefit for Texas Medicaid members, with an effective date of February 2, 2026.
VDP will communicate a new implementation date once it becomes available.
What This Means for Providers:
- Currently, only influenza and COVID-19 vaccines are available to adult Texas Medicaid members through the pharmacy benefit.
- Other adult vaccines remain covered under the medical benefit only.
Community First will share additional information once HHSC and VDP announce a new effective date or provide further clarification on vaccine coverage.
