Effective December 24, 2023, for all lines of business, when a facility bills two Emergency Room Evaluation and Management (E&M) services for the same date of service, a modifier 27 must be included on one of the E&M services. In the absence of the modifier 27, one of the E&M services will be denied as a duplicate.
